Fall 2009

Fall term is now well underway and Afsana is no longer taking new students this term. However, winter term is just around the corner and is open for registration. Please see below for details.

Winter 2010

Dates and location: Both classes run on Thursday evenings, January 7th to April 15th, in the community of Elbow Park, Calgary, Alberta. There is a total of 14 classes.
There will be no classes on Thursday, April 1st in honour of the Easter long weekend.

Belly Dance technique I

Class time: 6:30 – 7:45 PM
Cost: $210 before December 31st 2009; $250 afterwards.

Designed for those new to belly dancing but open to anyone who wants to go deeper into the always-important "basic" moves. This class focuses on the core body movements that make belly dance the beautiful and magical form it is! We will also cover basic veil technique. Drills of basic moves help the new dancer develop a relationship with her body, and help the experienced dancer master the foundations of her art.

Choreography Creation

Class times: 8:00 – 9:30 PM
Cost: $250 before December 31st 2009; $300 afterwards.

Ever wonder how people make the dances you see on stage? This term, we will find out. In class, we will create a choreography together, starting with the concept and the music, through mapping the music and the choreography, and finishing with formalizing our group creation. This will give you insight into, and practice with, the choreographic process. Advanced students will be encouraged to create their own solo or small group numbers outside class, with guidance from me and their classmates, and putting into practice the concepts we learn in class. Students will get the opportunity to show their choreographies at the Sistrum Dance Spring Recital 2010. This class is designed for those who have a year or more of training in basic belly dance technique (e.g. technique I & II).

Reduced Rate for Both Classes

Cost: $335 before December 31st 2009; $400 afterwards.

Do both classes and get Choreography Creation for half price! Perfect for those who would like to deepen their technique, while also exploring larger concepts in dance.

Drop-ins

Drop-ins are welcome during any scheduled class for $25, provided there is space. To avoid disappointment, please contact Afsana at least 48 hours before attending.

Scheduled Class Policies

The following policies ensure that neither students nor teacher are disappointed by late cancellations. Your space in a class cannot be held until payment is received in full. Payment is due on or before the first class. Classes will be capped at 9 students each. Classes with insufficient registration will be cancelled or combined with other classes. Cancelled classes are subject to a full refund. To withdraw with a refund, you must inform us in writing before the third class. The cost of attended and missed classes will be deducted from the refund in addition to a $25 administration fee. No refunds after the third class. Students are responsible to catch themselves up on material from missed classes. Afsana is also available for private classes to catch students up. Students who miss more than 1/3 of classes in the winter term, and those who miss more than three of the four final classes in the winter term, will be excluded from the student recital in April.
